The goal of this project was to find an example of typography out in the world that displayed at least five unique characters, then build out the entire typeface. I explored many options, conducting mini type studies.
There were many option That I found to be interesting, but what captured my attention the most were graffiti tags, specifically this tag local to Fayetteville: "sunbrn" (sun burn).

After dissecting what made this type unique, I developed the full typeface. The process relied on physical production rather than digital; Using A light box and grid paper, I hand-drew each character. You can see how some characters have several iterations.
Once the typeface was designed, I put it to action; I designed a zine commemorating the experience of developing the typeface, while giving a brief history over the importance of graffiti and self expression.
